THRU has prodcued a Training Manual which outlines the provisions of the South African Bill of Rights. The Manual informs a two day training course on the Bill of Rights and includes practical writing exercises to highlight the way journalists should approach potential news stories in order to draw out the human rights dimensions. The course and Manual have proved to be highly successful.

'No' Basic Rights? Know your Basic Rights! - R10.00 per issue

This is a human rights newsletter for the Cape Flats. It's principle language is Xhosa, but it is intended for a low literacy audience also so the newletter takes the form of a comic strip. The characters make up a typical Cape Flat's family whose lives are used to illustrate ways in which our human rights can be protected and promoted. We hope to work with the local community radio station, Radio Zibonelle, to produce radio dramas from the comic strip storylines to spread the message further.

HIVA the virus - Cartoon Character

THRU has developed a new cartoon character in a bid to attach the root causes of the stigma and discrimination endured by persons living with HIV/AIDS. HIVA represents the HIV virus, but he doesn't live inside the persons living with him - he lives in the house with them. Confused? Go to HIVA's page to meet him and the flatmates who are prevented from living in denial of their status!

HIVA has been featured in the Second "Laugh it Off" Annual and the 3rd Volume of cutting edge design magazine "Itch" by Bell-Roberts Publishers.

Not Free & Treated Unfair
